WHAT TYPE OF DJ DO YOU WISH TO HIRE?
Most DJs these days Philosophy is they think their audience has such a short attention span they have to create a “RAVE” fast beat and high volume style that keeps a PACKED dance floor. Therefore they play 30-60 or 90 seconds maximum per song and mix each quickly into something else. They also play the same 200-300 songs at every reception or party for every client. That’s one school of thought. Steve Myers believes in an Old School Different Philosophy.

SMDJB OFFERS A VARIETY OF FORMATS, SONGS, SPEEDS AND STYLES
Coming from Radio & High Class Nightclub backgrounds SMDJB suggests SETS of songs in various styles, speeds and formats in both original radio length and nightclub extended versions. Each song played in their original written and performed recording performance.
“In Radio we used a HOT CLOCK of music categories, in various performances from slow to medium and fast paced songs. The same holds true in Receptions and Parties. We offer a variety of hits by year or decode in one to several different formats of music. This rotates dancers and crowds for an exciting evening of dancing for everyone in attendance.”
SAMPLE FORMAT PLANS:
Steve in Nightclubs of the early Urban Cowboy 1980s started the top of each hour with Country music of slow to medium and building to faster paced hits. After fifteen to twenty minutes the format would change to Rock hits into Disco hits followed by slower love song sets back to the top of the hour.
SMDJB ROTATES THE DANCE FLOOR
Depending on the theme of each wedding one, two or several genres of music rotates the guests and bridal party to rotate the crowds. We can plan and play to different demographics of ages and backgrounds to dance or sit out segments, to have drinks, socialize and yet the party remains entertaining and fun.

Often the Bridal Parties as so focused on the dance floor they miss the opportunity to spend time with family, friends and invited guests. Couples often regret not making time for their guests verses staying in RAVE mode on the dance floor. Its just a different philosophy to conduct a reception or party.

NOSTALGIA STILL RULES THE HEART
Nostalgia rules the heart with great memories of good times.” Everyone has a favorite song, speed and format. As the night builds different preferred formats increase the memories of speed from slow to fast and back to slow. The night can always ending on a high note.
PRIOR PLANNING PREVENTS POOR PERFORMANCE.
Steve Myers works with each client from business to private receptions to map out their function with a script. A road map of what happens when and for how long. In Weddings there are all the special events from the arrivals to dinner, toasts, and first dances. Cutting the Cake to the garter removal or tossing the bouquet. Whenever it occurs it should be planned in writing for the Emcee to announce and coordinate the flow. This is why its important to make your music selections to accompany whatever is taking place and planned formats to please all attending.

At the same time the couple notices the core group who monopolized the dance floor.”
Brides and Grooms often admit they wished they had invested more funding and planning time in the DJ verses getting ‘caught up in the fervor of the moment’ and dancing nonstop to every song.
“In doing so they missed out on working the room, in conversation with family or invited guests and thanking them for the gifts and attendance.” Steve helps bridal parties and each client learn how to effectively plan their event to enjoy it more with everyone in attendance.
MOST DJ’s WONT PLAY REQUEST SONGS
The sad truth is that most DJ’s will not play guest requests. Some will never play a slow love song because they believe they will loose the packed floor. Some cringe at playing LINE dances for the singles, older or even the younger children in attendance. Success for MOST DJ’s is the packed non stop RAVE dance floor. However — SMDJB work with each client to their preferences and suggested we are willing to build and rotate the dance floor including playing requests if that is approved by the clients and their preferred song choices.
SMDJB REQUIRES THE BRIDAL PARTY TO HAVE A DO NOT PLAY LIST
We require the Bride and Groom to provide a Do Not Play List. In most cases clients want clean versions of all songs. If it’s on the list then each requester must respect the bridal couples wishes. If there’s a problem your security points of contact will be asked to deal with the guest.
WE STRIVE TO PLAY CLEAN VERSIONS
SMDJB always strives to play clean versions of songs. There are some exceptions as in the 4th famous verse of Garth Brooks FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES or the Charlie Daniels Band THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO GEORGIA but for the most part each event wants to reach for a G rated night. Many of the songs from the 1990s into the 2000s devolved into less than the best versions of lyrics. That’s why we strive to play the clean versions depending on the event and who is in attendance. Our CLIENTS make those decisions and we play accordingly.
MUSIC VIDEOS & BACKGROUNDS ADD LIFE TO A PARTY
One of the BENEFITS from MUSIC VIDEOS is the visual aspect of the content. Fun not only for dancers but for the peripheral guests. Whether it’s a singer or where the song was recorded or what movie clips might be added Music Videos are part of the presentation. When a Video is not available the screens should feature the logo and/or monogram of the couple or client sponsoring the event. SMDJB strives to create or use pre printed monograms or logos for static use of video screens.
Often its the little things that produce endorphins for a Bridal Party or Group to identify with the event they are attending. Something to cherish during and long after the event is over. That’s something Steve offers as standard operating proceedure.

HOW TO START
THE PROCESS?
It starts with an email, phone call, in person visit or to Zoom. THE FIRST PRIORITY IS TO RESERVE YOUR DATE and make sure WE are available and not already booked. Your 50% deposit reserves the date.
We arrange time to meet with our clients and they with STEVE MYERS.
Share what type of reception you plan to have, how many guests will attend, the planned venue and what you specifically want from the party. Forms on our Contact Page.
Your Reception DJ should also be your CEREMONY sound provider as well. Steve Myers provides an exceptional sound system for Ceremonies as well as the Reception. We use Broadcast Concert wireless Sennheiser professional microphones, keep wired backups, use Tascam mixers, Apple/Mac computers and controllers for specific music. We even back up recordings on SD cards if your videographer needs the assistance or you just want to have a copy. We set up in the rear of the venue or outdoors with a speaker aimed at the crowd, an equipment console and Jackery back up power supply under a covered white tent in outdoor venues.
To book and hold your wedding date SMDJB requires a 50% deposit with a signed contract with DJ Bandstand. We accept all types of payments electronically through our bank and card company.
Plan on meeting with your DJ on regular interval meetings months or a year before all your plans come together. We will help you create a script of order for the Ceremony and Reception. Steve will then plan accordingly and perform microphone emcee duties using and following your custom script. Choose the music you wish to dance to and include suggestions from family, the bridal party, and guests.
Steve will create a Script/CRATE of music selections in the general order of the evening leaving room for additions or subtractions. He will spend hours planning the songs and the preferred order of play selections.
Don’t be afraid to include a DO NOT PLAY list of inappropriate songs. This eliminates problems of guests requesting something you do not want to hear. All of our music is generally CLEAN versions of songs. Unless you state otherwise we play cautiously to all attending the receptions.
Include contacts of all your service providers, officiant, and venue to coordinate the evening and place the DJ small stand in close proximity to the dancefloor and within 50 feet of electrical outlets.
We use black TV/RADIO HIGH STANDARD DUCT TAPE to make sure all of our cables are secured to the ground and to avoid trip hazards. Safety is our priority. If a venue will not allow duct tape make sure the DJ is near the dance floor able to hug a wall or partition to run cables.
In no circumstance will DJ Bandstand put our equipment on a balcony or raised area using steps. All of our equipment needs to be grounded on the main floor area of the event. The only exception might be a venue outdoors where we will setup on a mat and with our own covered small white tent canopy over our equipment. Electricity and water should never mix.
Pay the balance of the quoted contract price 30 days prior to the wedding and reception.
We prefer no extra hours be purchased at the event especially involving your contract with your venue provider. Exceptions might include another venue after if there is enough set up and tear down time to transport.
Our Contracts are the final agreement.
We ask you to provide written testimonials of your experience with our company within 30 days of the event. Include photographs if possible from your photographer and we’ll post them on our blog and site. If you love what we do feel free to refer or recommend us to friends and coworkers. We exist and market based on referrals of satisfied clients.
Lighting and special effects:
Steve Myers comes from a background in Photography, Videography, Broadcasting and many nightclub venues. We attempt to work with each vendor and accommodate your photo and video staff to not interfere with their skilled work. So we avoid nightclub lighting, mirror balls, lasers or anything that could ruin the photographers professional work in some or all of the Wedding Reception venues.
We will strive to work with your vendors to provide a safe and professional entertainment option without compromising the work of the other staff and vendors.
Security. It is imperative that Steve Myers, his crew and equipment is safe at all times in the venue. We also must feel secure in the weather, event venue and most importantly your guests without interference or hassles. We will require someone’s name and introduction who will be your SECURITY point of contact should anyone get out of order at the venue and/or around our equipment or for our services.
If we are threatened at any point we will lower or cut off the volume until the situation is resolved by your point of contact and/or security professionals.
We also will not play anything through anyones phone, smart phone, tablet or device.
We will try not to deviate from your expressed directives.
We are a work for hire vendor and must keep our personnel and equipment safe.

We are insured for performance insurance for the venue of $2 million dollars and over our equipment. If anything is harmed, damaged or broken by your guests or party will will bill for damages in repairs or replacement. Rarely does this happen but it is a part of our attorneys and company insurance professionals in conducting business.
